An AI notetaker is more than a summary generator. The lasting value is whether you can recover a decision, understand why it was made, and act on it a week later. A transcript captures words. Personal notes capture your priorities. A summary helps you navigate, but it should remain connected to the source.

Compare workflows before feature counts

Follow one meeting from capture to next steps

Imagine a fictional product team discussing a simpler onboarding flow. Maya will sketch wireframes, Alex will build a prototype, and Sam will prepare Friday’s review. The group has agreed on one clear starting path, but has not yet chosen a success metric.

During recording, Tagalong shows a live transcript while you write “Keep the first step simple” in your personal notes. You can ask AI what remains unresolved. The answer is a suggestion based on available context, not a verified decision.

After processing, check named speaker labels and the summary against the transcript. Enhance your notes if you want transcript context incorporated, while retaining the original wording. Review extracted action items before sending them to a task manager. Search the saved meeting later by a relevant name or phrase.

Local storage and cloud processing are different choices

Tagalong saves the meeting library to a folder you choose. Library search reads text locally. If that folder is in iCloud Drive or another sync service, those settings also affect where copies go.

Cloud transcription and AI features send relevant audio or text to a provider. Some processing begins automatically after you stop recording. The Private License changes provider credentials and routing; it does not turn cloud AI into an offline model. Read the feature-by-feature data flow.

Export tasks you have reviewed

Automatic extraction gives you candidate tasks. Check the title, owner, and due information, then select the items and destination. Apple Reminders, Todoist, Asana, and monday.com are available in the 3.4.1 task workflow, with different configuration requirements and exported fields.

For example, Asana receives a task title and notes in a configured project. The current monday.com export creates a named item on a configured board; it does not map owner, status, or due-date columns. Later changes do not synchronize in either direction. Use Claude or ChatGPT with clear boundaries

The released Claude Desktop extension can search and retrieve supported meeting text, and show an interactive meeting workspace. In Tagalong Settings → Claude & ChatGPT, choose a library folder and enable Allow AI assistants to read this folder. Install the extension and configure the same folder in Claude. That permission covers current and future supported meeting documents in the folder and subfolders.

The connector does not send audio or images, and task status is read-only. Retrieved excerpts enter the provider’s conversation. Turning access off stops future retrieval; it cannot recall text already sent.

The ChatGPT setup kit is included, but requires developer-mode access, OpenAI Secure MCP Tunnel permissions, credentials, and a running Mac and tunnel. Interactive ChatGPT rendering has not been validated. It is not a universally one-click or public-directory connector. Current setup and availability.
