It is worth evaluating when the transcription engine and handling of audio files are your first priorities. Check which features require Pro and which optional AI choices use an external provider. Muesli describes a Mac-native workflow built around local capture, a reviewable source transcript, exports, and open-source code. It distinguishes that source record from optional AI summarization. Fathom’s free plan lists unlimited recordings and transcriptions, instant summaries, clips, and search. Its pricing page currently offers both bot capture and bot-free capture, with the latter marked beta for Mac. When staying with Granola makes sense

Granola’s Basic plan includes AI notes, chat within and across meetings, shared folders, and templates, with limited meeting history. Business adds unlimited history and advanced integrations. Its security documentation describes cloud transcription and hosted notes. If that managed, shared workflow suits your team, changing apps solely for a different feature checklist may add work. Try one synthetic meeting before moving your workflow

Use the same short, fictional conversation in each app you evaluate. Include a decision, an owner, a date, and an unresolved question. Check whether you can find the source behind the summary, correct a speaker label, recover your original notes, and export the actual fields you need.
